Add my storyBiography contributed by Cherilyn McMeekin
Ernest was the son of George and Henrietta CLAYTON (nee PROSSER) and the 9th of 10 children born to them. All but the youngest, who was stillborn, survived to adulthood.
Three of his brothers also enlisted in WWI: Henry (Harry), Lewis, and Wallace. Ernest enlisted at age 18, a week after his brother Wallace. Sadly, Wallace didn't make it home, dying in Pozieres, France in 1916 aged 23. The news of Wallace's death came soon after the death of his mother Henrietta, aged 60.
Ernest married in 1921 to Dorothy 'Doll' WHITE in Harvey WA. They had 4 children. He died in 1974 aged 77.
