Before the war
Arthur Leslie Ferme was born in Solomon town, Port Pirie, South Australia. His occupation was a stableman. His age when he joined the military was 21 years and 3 months. He was 5 feet and 8 ½ inches tall, weighed 65 kg, had a medium complexion, brown eyes, dark hair and his religion is a Methodist. Arthur Leslie Ferme was a stableman at Port Pirie has the beliefs called the white feather, made him go to the military and to prove that a stableman can also fight. He was not married and his mother was his next of kin. He enlisted at 21 on 6 July 1915.
Ferme embarked from Adelaide on 14 September 1915. He reached Lemnos on 25 November but probably never fought on Gallipoli. In April 1916 he was allotted to the 50th Battalion in Egypt when that was formed. But it soon became clear that he was not fit enough for front line service and in July 1916 he was returned to Australia for discharge.
Ferme died at Springbank on 8 April 1951.
