Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

He was 21 and the only son of David and Annie Sutherland, of 21, Gellibrand St., Williamstown, Victoria, Australia.

He is remembered on the Avoch War Memorial which is located on the A832 road to Dingwall. It takes the form of a three stepped base surmounted by a square base in turn surmounted by square base plinth and obelisk with a sword of sacrifice on the front face. The inscription in black lettering is on the sides of the plinth. The whole is enclosed by wrought iron railings.

[There are two New Zealanders also commemorated on this memorial.]
