105 years ago today, on the 22nd December 1916 (11.50 P.M.), Private William Miller, 35th Battalion (Reg No-1673), dairy farmer from 73 Orchardtown Road, New Lambton, New South Wales, Died of Wounds, age 20 years 10 months.

Born at Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland about 1896 to John (died 1936, not listed on Sandgate database) and Isabella (Bella, died 1949), William enlisted February 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Admitted to 12th Casualty Clearing Station, 22.12.1916 (GSW head, dangerously ill).

William is resting at Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery, France. Plot I Row B Grave 21.

Mr. Miller’s name has been inscribed on the New Lambton War Memorial Gates (photos, unveiled on the 11th November 1916, 93 names originally inscribed, 3 Fallen, 114 names now inscribed, 19 Fallen), Lambton and New Lambton Municipal District Roll of Honor, New Lambton Mechanics' Institute Certificate, New Lambton Public School Roll of Honour and the Lambton Lodge Independent Order of Oddfellows Roll of Honour.

There is no memorial inscription on the Miller headstone plaque to tell us of the supreme sacrifice of their son William, and I am unable to erect a memorial cross, so I have placed poppies in remembrance of this Forgotten Digger of The Great War. GENERAL-31. 43.
