John Alexander Whitmore (Jack) JENKINS was born in Sydney in 1894

His parents were John Alexander JENKINS & Sophia WHITMORE who married in Sydney in 1888

He enlisted in Warwick Farm, Sydney on 20th September, 1915 and embarked with the 1st Infantry Battalion, 13th reinforcements on the HMAT Aeneas on 20th December, 1915

He was wounded in France on 20th July, 1916 with injuries to his left shoulder from a grenade and then captured by the enemy and interned at Langensalza in Germany when he was being treated for his wounds.  He spent about two years as a Prisoner of War in a POW camp near Kassel.  He was later sent to Holland for internment and returned to Australia on 3rd March, 1919 and discharged on 18th June, 1919

He married Ada BENNETT in Sydney in 1921

John died in Sydney at the Repatriation General Hospital in Concord & is buried in the Rookwood Cemetery, Plot 16, Zone D, Grave 4082

His brother George Eastbourne Molyneaux JENKINS (SN 6628) also served during WW1 and was Killed in Action in France on 17th April, 1918
