Private Fred Vogel died from gunshot wounds received while in action in France on February 26. Private Vogel was 24 years of age, and enlisted in Broken Hill on April 13. He served on the Gallipoli Peninsula. When the Peninsula was evacuated he was transferred to France and was invalided to England from the effects of gas poisoning. Writing on January 22 from England to a friend in Broken Hill, Private Vogel mentioned that he was full up of camp life, and was anxious to have another go at Fritz. Previous to enlisting he was employed in the mill at Junction North Mine. He held good qualities as a sportsman and workmate. Private Vogel's mother resides in Jamestown SA.
