Private James William Wall (Service No:6842) served with North Shields Engineers in England before enlisting in the AIF on 8 August 1916 with Dubbo Depot Battalion. Private Wall was attached to 2nd Infantry Battalion on 8 November 1916 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Devonport on board HMAT SS Nicholson. WiA on two occasions in France in 1917, on 2 March 1918 Private Wall embarked from England for Melbourne on board HT Euripides, and was attached to 2nd Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 17 September 1918. Son Albert (Service No:14404) served in the RAAF in WWII.

James was born in Northumberland, England in 1883, youngest of three children of William Walter Wall (b1859 in Norfolk, England) and Sarah Jane Harkness (b1859 in Glasgow, Scotland). William and Sarah married in 1878 in Northumberland, where they settled and raised their family and William was a Bricklayer.

James worked in Tynemouth, Northumberland as a Bricklayer, and in 1906 married Jane Elizabeth Smith (b1884 in North Shields, Northumberland, England) - Jane was a Dressmaker in Tynemouth. James and Sarah settled in Tynemouth, where they raised their family and James worked as a Bricklayer. In 1912 James arrived in Melbourne on board the Kaikoura, and was a Bricklayer in Sydney when he enlisted in the AIF in 1916 -  Jane remained in England until 1919, when she and the four children arrived in Sydney in 1919 on board the Benalla. James and Jane settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and James worked as a Bricklayer, James died in 1964 and Jane in 1967.
