Ashley was born in Adelaide to Mary Ann Langley (1853 – 1938) and William Fewster (1814 – 1915)
He married Florence Johns on Jan 31 1911 in Lyndoch SA
They had 5 Children
Florence, Grace, Molly, William and Jack.

Military

Ashley John Eugene Fewster joined the AIF on 17th January 1916. He was allocated Service Number 2107 and joined 9th Light Horse Brigade.

He caught the train from Lyndoch with his Brother-In-Law Norman Nicholson Johns and they signed up together.

Norman was KIA 8/10/17 in Belgium.
Ashley left Australia on 15th March 1916. In August 1916 he was admitted to hospital in Abassia, and on or about 2nd or 7th October boarded H.T. “Ascanius”for return to Australia. He returned to Australia and was discharged as medically unfit on 21st November 1916.

On his war records it states that he had conjunctivitis, but speaking to his Grandsons, they believe he had a respiratory infection.
