14 May 1919: Honoured Military Medal, Breaching the Hindenburg Line - Cambrai / St Quentin Canal, For judgement and bravery at Bellicourt from 30 September to 2 October 1918, as part of a small party that bombed 600 yards of the main enemy trench and and caused many casualties through excellent grenade throwing. During an enemy counter attach he stood on top of the parapet, without regard to personal safety, throwing bombs on the advancing enemy with great effect and being in the midst of the very thickest of the fighting.
