12 Aug 1916: Honoured Military Medal, Citation reads: At Petillon on 19th/20th July 1916 Corporal Hawke showed conspicuous bravery in assisting to repel a German bombing party that came along a communication trench towards the front of our position. When this attack was finally beaten off, he carried grenades to the left flank and again assisted in driving back the enemy.
