War Service/Promotions: On 18 March 1916 was attached to Engineering Corps in Tel-el-Kabir, Egypt, and Taken on Strength as a Sapper in the O.C. 15th Field Co. Embarked Alexandria, Egypt, on the Kingsfarm Castle, on 18 June 1916, disembarking at Marseilles, France, on 29 June 1916. Appointed Lance Corporal in the Field on 2 October 1916. To Gas School Instruction on 31 May 1917 and rejoined on 3 June 1917. Furlough to England between 11 June 1917 and 23 June 1917. Hospitalised from 29 June 1917 to 9 July 1917 for dental work. Rejoined 15th Field Co. on 9 July 1917. Admitted to 39th Stationary Hospital on 2 September 1917 with tonsillitis, and rejoined unit on 9 September 1917. Promoted to 2nd Corporal on 1 October 1917. Leave to Paris, France, between 5 January 1918 and 15 January 1918. Detached to 5 Divisional Topographical Section in the Field on 14 February 1918, and back to 15th Field Co. on 19 March 1918. Proceeded to England to join Officers Cadet School on same day. Selected to attend The Engineer Cadet Course commencing at Newark, England, 31 March 1918. On 17 August appointed 2nd Lieutenant and posted to Engineer Reinforcements (Field Corps). Proceeded overseas to France via Southampton, Hampshire, England, on 24 September 1918. Taken on Strength in the field in 15 Field Co. on 1 October 1918. Leave to United Kingdom on 27 January 1919, and rejoined unit in France on 6 February 1919. Proceeded to Weymouth, Dorset, England from Le Havre, France, on 6 April 1919, before returning to Australia. He was discharged from the Army on 23 August 1919.
Fate: Returned to Australia per HT Zealandic, 11 May 1919. He married Gertrude May Coulson, 6 December 1919, St Joseph's Church, Orange, NSW.
