"...6599 Private Thomas Rex Vipond, 5th Battalion. A porter from Essendon, Victoria prior to enlistment, Pte Vipond embarked along with his brother 6598 Pte John Howard Vipond with the 25th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Nestor on 2 October 1916. Whilst serving in France, he was wounded in action and evacuated to England. Following his recovery he rejoined his unit as a Driver and returned to Australia on 22 August 1919. Pte John Vipond returned to Australia on 10 September 1917..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
