Bruce Sloan was born on 19 April 1894, in Jamestown South Australia, Australia. The son of Eliza and William. The family moved to Broken Hill New Soth Wales, where Bruce obtained apprenticeship with the Broken Hll mining company as a blacksmith.He enlisted into the AIF on 21 January 1916 where he obtained the rank of sergeant, after basic training his unit embarked on board HMAT A29 Suevic on 31 May 1916, Bruce returned to Australia on 11 May 1919. He married Alma Ruby SMITH on 2nd of October 1920 in the Methodist Church in Archer St North Adelaide,South Australia. They had two children during their marriage. He died on the 4th of  November 1980 in Sydney, New South Wales, at the age of 86.
