"GRIFFITHS.- Killed in action, in France, on 5th August, Private Frank Edward Griffiths, aged 26 years.
Killed in France! Oh, noble' end, He died, pale children to defend,
No woman called on him in vain, No aged creature bowed in pain;
He never shunned his country's call, But gladly gave his life, his all,
And died, the helpless to defend, Oh, noble husband, noble end.
You hear no more the bugle call, Your comrades to advance.
You hear no more the rattling gun Or the clashing of the lance.
You see no more the bursting shell, Light up the lurid sky,
You sleep afar, a loyal husband, On the battlefield of France. Inserted by his loving wife, G. M. Grif- fiths, Valley." - from the Brisbane Telegraph 25 Oct 1916 (nla.gov.au)
