The details provided are taken from the book "Stealth Raiders - a few daring men in 1918" written by Lucas Jordan, published in 2017, refer to pages163,164 and 261. Prior to the war he was a Bank Teller of Geelong Vic. He enlisted 10th July 1915 aged 24years. He achieved the rank of Temporary Captain survived the war and departed UK for home 12th May 1919.

Matthew Abson went to the church of England. His occupation was a bank teller, he was single when he died. He was 24 when he embarked on his journey. Matthew had a height of 5'8.5'' and his weight was 148lbs. He enlisted on the 8th of Feburary 1915. The place that he enlisted was Melbourne, Victoria. He embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 23rd November 1915. He returned to Australia on the 12th of May 1919, his units name was 6th Battalion, 12th Rienforcement. His war sevice was in Egypt, and the Western Front. On the 7th of February, 1917 he was wounded but remained on duty, he was also wounded on the 16th of April 1918 and the 19th of September 1918. But he remained on duty all of those times. Matthew won 3 medals, British War Medal, Victory Medal and the 1914-15 star.
