William Dearden was born in Yorkshire, England in 1881. He married Harriet in 1906 at age 25 and travelled out to Fremantle, Western Australia during July 1912, along with his wife and two children.
He enlisted during February 1916 and arrived in France only three weeks before he was killed in action by retaliatory shelling after an Australian trench raid in Belgium.
