2462 Corporal George Duncan Alliston 22nd Battalion AIF, was promoted to Lance Sergeant during May 1917, wounded in action Broodseinde 4 October 1917, shrapnel wound chest and back, evacuated to England before rejoining his unit in France during February 1918. Very shortly after the General Officer Commanding AIF, General Birdwood, approved his return to Australia on the basis that Alliston himself had been wounded and his two brothers, had been killed in action.

Surname entered incorrectly on Embarkation Roll as ALLISTER.
Son of John William and Mary Alliston. Brother of James Alliston 3753 killed in action on the 3 May 2017 and William Donald Alliston 203 killed in action 20 July 1917.
Returned to Australia 15 April 1918
