Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Len was the eldest of seven children of George Lewis (born 1873 at Boxer's Creek near Goulbourn, NSW) and first wife Matilda Edith Derrett (born 1873 in Yass, NSW). George (an Engine Driver) married Matilda in 1895 in Goulbourn, NSW.

Len was a Railway Engine Cleaner at Narrabri, NSW when he enlisted in the AIF in September 1914. Len's Service Papers show his name as Lenneth, as does his signature, but on occasion it was mis-transcribed as Kenneth. His name on Official Rcords (BDM etc) show Lenneth. Len served with the 17th Infantry Battalion as a Private (Service No:742). He was WiA in France, and was Discharged in January 1918.

In September that year - back at Narrabri - Len married Edith Dorothy Miller (born 1893 in Winchelsea, Victoria). Len and Edith lived in Woy Woy, Parkes and Sydney, NSW where Len worked as a Launch Driver. Len died in 1965 and Edith in 1969.
