Frank Hammond COLBEY was the fifth child and second son of Charles Hammond and Annie Elizabeth (PRICE) COLBEY.

Before the war he played football for the Norwood Club and rowed for the Torrens Club. He worked for Foy & Gibson as a salesman.

Landing at Gallipoli, 25th April, 1915, he was promoted to corporal July, 1915 then to temporary sergeant September 1915.

After returning to Egypt, he was made Company Quarter Master Sergeant, March 1916 before embarking for the Western Front. He was made 2nd Lieutenant, September, 1916.

He served in the Pozieres area until wounded 6th November, 1916 when he was eventually evacuated to hospital in London.

His younger brother, Alfred Gibson COLBEY was killed on the Western Front, 5th November, 1916 near Flers.

Frank did not return to France but served in various training depots in England. He returned to Australia January 1919.

After the war, he had a fruit growing block at Renmark, marrying Estelle VINEY in 1920.  He surrendered the lease on the block 1926 going on to become a supervising inspector for the Commerce Department in Adelaide and was responsible for fixing the grades of dried fruits in various states.

He was involved in the Renmark Rowing Club and was a boxing referee at Renmark and in Adelaide for the Legacy Boxing Club.

He had one son, Colin.
