Biography

Robert Burns RIDDELL was born in 1891 in Toorak, Victoria

His parents were Robert Burns RIDDELL and Margaret (Maggie) STIRLING

He enlisted on 22nd February 1916 with the Australian Army - he was a Lieutenant with the 38th Battalion, D Company - Unit embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Runic on 20th June, 1916

Robert died of wounds in the 3rd London General Hospital on 10th September, 1918 and is buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery - he is also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial - He was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal.

RIDDELL - Officially reported died of wounds at 3rd London General Hospital on September 10th.  Lieutenant Robert Burns RIDDELL, 38th Battalion, only son of Madame Stirling Riddell of "Craignell" Orrong Rd, Toorak and the late R.B. Riddell.  Beloved brother of the late Mrs. Mary Stirling Croom and beloved uncle of Stuart Stirling Croom and cousin of Maggie Furze
