Cyril Samuel Healey

Cyril Samuel Healey was born 26 July 1912 at Norwood to Walter Healey and Florence Pulham. He was known as Sam/Sammy.

He joined the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve on 31st August 1942 and was allocated to the “Cerberus” as an Able Seaman. Cyril is described as 5 feet 6 ½ inches, fair complexion, blue eyes and fair hair.

Sam served on several of the same ships as his brother Jack (John Victor Healey) ie Torrens and Rushcutter, but not at the same time. His home port was Port Adelaide.

Next of kin was his wife Edna. They had two sons.

The Australian War Memorial, has art work entitled “YMCA Darwin” Artist John Baird. The description states “Gunner Alan Leslie Walker (NX67342), Cryptographer William Stuart Thomson (26388), Able seaman Cyril Samuel Healey (PA/V84), Driver E. Pratt and Signaller Neville Hugh Marshall (S6356) are depicted standing around Private Robert William 'Bob' Luttrell (WX32100) as he plays the piano in a YMCA hut in Darwin.

He was discharged 22 January 1946, posting at discharge, HMAS Torrens.

Sam died 15 September 1984 age 72 and buried at Cheltenham Cemetery with his wife. Last abode: Seaton.
