Walter was born in Scotland, son of Walter Lindsay and Eliza Young Winter.

Private Lindsay enlisted in Townsville on 21 Oct 1916 and embarked from Sydney per HMAT A64 “Demosthenes’ on 23 Dec 1916.

He served on the Western Front with the 41st Battalion AIF.  He was Killed in Action near Ypres, Belgium on 5 Oct 1917, and has no known grave.

His name appears on Panel 27 of the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, and on Panel 134 at the Australian War Memorial. He was a draper.
