George was the son of Edward and Mary Ann White and had been born and raised in Ballarat. His father passed away when he was only five years of age.
George’s older brother, 4792 Pte. Edward Charles Vincent White 24th Battalion AIF was later killed in action at Bullecourt 3 May 1917, aged 29.
His widowed mother was living in South Yarra after the war and received all of his effects and medals.
