Private rising to S.Q.M. Sergeant S.N. 3107, 5th Light Horse Regiment AIF, WW1.

When Aubrey Tom Johnstone Elcoate enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as F. E. Morris, Toowong, Qld. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 7, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs E. Morris, Toowong.

Aubrey Tom Johnstone Elcoate was born on 1 May 1882 in Queensland, a son to John Weatherly Elcoate and Isabel Elcoate (nee Johnstone). His father had passed in 1897 and his mother remarried in 1898 to  Frederic Ebenezer Morris in Queensland. 

When he enlisted in Brisbane in Jan 1916 for WW1 he noted on his Attestation Form that; he was born at Maytown Nth Queensland and was 33 years 8 months old; was single and working as a Clerk; and his N.O.K. was his mother Mrs. I. Morris, Hamilton. Newspaper reports at the time of his enlistment indicate he was living in the Samford area of Brisbane.

Aubrey married Lilian Mary Gubbins on 16 Jul 1924 in Queensland and they had 2 children. Its unclear when the family moved to NSW but they were living in Sydney when he passed in 1942.
