17 Mar 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Merris (France), 4389 Lance Corporal George William PRATT - Military Medal and Bar Born 1883 at Wollongong NSW. Occupation: Storekeeper. Enlisted at Holdsworthy on 27 September 1915. Embarked for Egypt 20 December 1915 and posted to 54 Battalion AIF on 16 February 1916. Embarked from Egypt for France on 19 June 1916. Awarded Military Medal for Bravery in the Field on 17 March 1917, as a signaller attached to 54 Battalion. Recommended for Distinguished Conduct Medal but awarded a second Military Medal (or Bar) for Bravery in the Field on 25/26 September 1917. Pratt was gassed during the Battalion’s operations on 17 April 1918 and evacuated to England for treatment and recuperation. He returned to Australia on 29 December 1918 and was discharged from the Army on 13 June 1919 as being medically unfit.
