'South Blngera.

A WELCOME HOME TO SOLDIERS.

On Saturday, September 15th, a welcome home to Pte. W. G. Dodd, of the 11th L.H. was given by the residents of South Bingera at the residence of Councillor Doyle Hill. There was a good roll up of friends from South Bingera, Pine Creek, Givelda, Electra and South Kolan. Dancing, singing and games were indulged in and all had a 'very enjoyable evening. About 10.30 all sat down to supper, the chair being occupied by Mr. R. Gollan, who proposed the loyal toast and then called on Mr. Hill to propose the toast "Our Hero, Pte. Dodd."

Mr. Hill eulogised Pte. Dodd as being a man he had known for years and who had answered his country's call, and had gone out to fight for liberty and freedom. Following the usual custom a medal was presented to Pte. Dodd by the residents, Miss R. Hill bring called on to pin the medal on Pte. Dodd's coat.

Mr. W. Clough responded on behalf of Pte. Dodd and thanked all present for their kindly welcome and good wishes. About midnight, all joined in singing the National Anthem "God Save Our Men," and "Auld Lang Syne," and then made their way home.' from The Bundaberg Mail and Burnett Advertiser 25 Sep 1917 (nla.gov.au)
