Military Medal
'On the 4th July, 1918, during the attack east of HAMEL, Private BERRY was in charge of a lewis gun team. During the early stages of the attack his crew became casualties. He at once collected men and organised another crew and, later, when his Company was temporarily held up by an enemy machine gun, BERRY rushed forward with his lewis gun and was successful in killing the crew and putting the gun out of action. By the bravery and initiative shown by him when under heavy machine gun fire he set a splendid example to the other men of his Section.'
