"M. ARMAND BETHMONT.
M. Armand Bethmont, who is a member of the Australian Military Forces now on active service, is a son of M. M. Bethmont, who has had much military experience, and holds an important position in the War Office. The service in the case of both is, however, purely voluntary, as the Bethmonts are a family who have been established for centuries in Andorra, a State in the Pyrenees, between France and Spain, which from the days of Charlemagne has preserved its independence. All the inhabitants of Andorra capable of bearing arms are liable to be called out in case of emer- gency, but are exempt from foreign service. Public opinion there is, however, wholly in favour of the Allies, and hence many soldiers from the State are, like M. Bethmont and his father, aiding the armies who are fighting the Germans." - from the Adelaide Southern Cross 17 Dec 1915 (nla.gov.au)
