Add my storyBiography
Arthur Wells served for 4 years in the 8th Australian Infantry Regiment in Castlemaine prior to WW1.
He joined the AIF on the 14th of June 1915 and probably because of his previous service he was quickly promoted to various ranks. He embarked on HMAT Medic with the 37th Battalion (6th Reinforcements) in late 1916.
In 1917 he was promoted to Lieutenant and transfered to the 67th Battalion.
In September 1918 he commenced his pilot training which he finsihed in March 1919 and became a member of the Australian Flying Corps.
He was demobilised in London in January 1920 and married a French lady. He returned to Australia in 1921.
He had at least one daughter, Eileen, who later went on to serve in the RAAF in WW2.
She provided the author with the WW1 name tag worn by her father plus his 8th AIR hat badge, his AIF hat badge, and AFC shoulder title depicted in the attached photographs.
Eileen also indicated that Arthurs brother, Lt General Sir Henry Wells also saw extensive military service with the Australian Army
