Private Harry Ward (Service No:1598) enlisted in the AIF in Adelaide SA on 17 September 1915, and was attached to 11th Light Horse Regiment 7th Reinforcement on 18 November 1915 when he embarked with his Unit from Adelaide for Suez on board HMAT A2 Geelong. Private Ward developed eye problems for which he was hospitalised in Cairo, and embarked from Suez for Melbourne on 11 April 1916 on board HT Runic - invalided. Private Ward was attached to 11th Light Horse Regiment at Discharge in Adelaide on 19 June 1916 - Medically Unfit for Service. Sons Medwyn and Leon served in WWII, and brother Arnold served in WWI and WWII and Spencer served in WWI.

Harry was born in Callington via Strathalbyn, South Australia in 1884, eldest of ten children of William Henry Ward (b1856 at Kangaroo Flat, Bendigo, Victoria) and his first wife Sarah Adelina Gidley (b1865 in Adelaide, SA). William and Sarah married in Adelaide in 1882 in Adelaide, and lived in Strathalbyn, Petersburgh,  Umberumberka via Broken Hill NSW, Crystal Brook and the Yorke Peninsula before settling in Adelaide. William worked as a Traveller, Greengrocer, Shopkeeper and Agent.

Harry started work as a Wharf Labourer in Edithburgh, SA, where in 1919 he married Pearl Minola Pascoe (b1893 at Moonta Mines, South Australia). Harry and Pearl settled in Edithburgh, where they raised their family and Harry worked as a Wharf Labourer. Harry died in 1955 and Pearl in 1970.
