John is the son of John and Harriet Syphers, John snr was a farmer, living at "Tallwood" Limestone Creek, near Lyndhurst, nsw
John Syphers first enlisted on the 20/1/1915, given the No 2017, app to the 5th reinforcements for the 13th battallion.
was discharged on the 12/4/1915- Under age, No parental consent.
On the 29/1/1916, he reinlisted, No 2255 and posted to the 53rd Battalion.
On the 29/1/1917, while the Battalion was moving to the front line near Flers, John was K.I.A,
John has no known grave,
He is on the Australian National Memorial, Viller's Bretonneux.
John is remembered on the Lyndhurst Memorial Hall.
John's brother James also served and returned home.
