Today, on this day of comemoration of ANZAC DAY (2020), I would like to pay a very respectful and grateful tribute to Corporal number 2664 Robert William Daly who fought in the 60th Australian infantry battalion and who died of his wounds 102 years ago, on April 25, 1918 at the age of 23🌺

Robert William Daly was born in 1894 in Toombullup, Victoria, Australia and he was the son of Margaret Daly and lived in Omeo, Victoria. Before the war Robert worked as a farmer

Enlisted on September 1, 1916 in the 60th Australian Infantry Battalion, 6th Reinforcement, he embarked with his unit from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A71 Nestor.

Disembarked in Plymouth, England, on November 16, 1916, he received his training in the 15th Training Battalion in Murdcott, England, soon after he joined his battalion to embark for France.Disembarked in Le Havre, France on September 16, 1917, he joined the Belgian front and the trenches on October 5 and was promoted Lance Corporal then Corporal on October 12 and he fought at Ypres then he and his battalion joined the Somme front in March 1917

Robert fought at La Neuville, Corbie, Bonnay-Sur-Somme, then on April 24 during the German offensive to take Villers Bretonneux he was wounded and evacuated to Vignacourt where he died the next day at the age of 23

Today Robert William Daly rests in peace at Vignacourt British Cemetery,Somme.
