Mrs. Lane, of Euston-terrace, Croydon, has been officially notified that her eldest son, Private Sydney Lane, was killed in action in France on August 16. He had his 26th birthday in the trenches." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 07 Oct 1916 (nla.gov.au)
