Biography

Henry (Harry) Rehn    1880 -1949

Boer War: Regimental Number 403, Trooper 5th South Australian Imperial Bushmen

Harry’s grandparents left Germany in 1836 to come to Australia on the ship“South Australian” The ship landed them on Kangaroo Island in early 1837. On its return trip, it sank off the SA coast. The family settled in Houghton and were engaged in agriculture.

Harry’s father moved his family to the Franklin Harbour district in 1885 to take up farming land he had purchased. There the next hard years were spent on the large area of land, clearing scrub using bullock teams  and hard manual labour.

Harry saw active service in South Africa and returned via a time in New Zealand to Franklin Harbour where he spent the rest of his working life, apart from a short time in Hahndorf as a farmer, a butcher and a stock and station agent. He was a fluent preacher and formed his own Independent Christian church. He had seven children.
