Embarked with the 20th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion on the HMAT Anchises

Disembarked Plymouth England 11 October 1916

Assigned to No 3 Training Battalion 25 October 1916

Transferred to the 27th Battalion via Etaples in December 1916

AWOL 14 March 1917 - awarded 24hrs detention

7 July 1917  - Promoted Lance Corporal

2nd October 1917 Wounded in action GSW (Gun Shot Wound or General Shrapnel Wound) left hand and chest - severe.   At this time the Battalion was engaged in the fighting near Ypres in Belgium. 

Evacuated on RMS Queen Elizabeth to the UK admitted to 3 Auxiliary Hospital at Dartford.

He did not return to the front.  His wounds were sufficiently serious that he was identified for repatriation to Australia. 

He was Discharged at Keswick Barracks in Adelaide (HQ 4th Military District)  19th March 1918
