RSL Records indicate a 'Harry' Horley Regt Number 818 / 53 was also known as Walter Goldsworthy. Member 'Elleston' sub branch. His last known address however was 29a Lurline Street Mile End.
These details connect with a service record: Goldsworthy Walter [Horley Walter Goldsworthy] : SERN 811 53 : POB Mildura VIC : POE Keswick SA : NOK Horley Harry
It seems he enlisted as Walter Goldsworthy HORLEY, into the 10th Battalion, on the 14th August 1914 and was allocated the Regimental number 53. However he was discharged as 'unlikely to become efficient' in October 1914 prior to Embarkation. Apparently, undeterred, he subsequently re-enlisted under the name Walter Goldsworthy on the 9th March 1915 and was allocated to the 27th Battalion.
A letter from his father Harry Horley explains that Walter was his adopted son, and had been with the family since he was one month old. His enlistemnt papers list his Next of Kin as his 'guardian' as Mrs Martha Horley of Plympton.
