21 Mar 1918: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 17347, 12th Field Ambulance, German Spring Offensive 1918, 12 Fd Amb supported 12 Bde in a series of rapid withdrawals and defensive actions around Hébuterne, Dernancourt, and Villers‑Bretonneux. The diary notes constant movement, heavy shelling, and large casualty flows as SBs worked forward of RAPs under fire. Locations shifted frequently as the unit evacuated wounded during some of the most chaotic fighting of the war.
4 Jul 1918: Involvement 12th Field Ambulance, Le Hamel - Blueprint for Victory, During the attack on Hamel, 12 Fd Amb operated ADSs forward of Vaire Wood and Hamel Wood. The diary notes a steady but manageable casualty flow due to the well‑planned, short operation. SBs moved rapidly behind the advancing infantry. The unit cleared all wounded by nightfall, with the diary describing the day as “highly successful” from a medical standpoint.
18 Sep 1918: Involvement "The Last Hundred Days", On 18 September 1918, 12 Fd Amb supported 12 Bde during the attack on the Hindenburg Main Line near Le Verguier and Hargicourt. The unit diary records heavy and continuous evacuation work as SBs moved forward behind the assaulting infantry under shellfire. The unit handled large numbers of wounded from the successful breach of the German defensive system.
