Biography contributed by Aberfoyle Park High School

Henry Roy Chadwick was born in Clifton Hill, Victoria in Australia.

He was a young man upon enlistment, he had 3 years experiance serving in the citizens forces & 2 years experiance as a senior caddet.

He was 21 & 3months when he enlisted to fight in the First World War, he was considered a mechanic and placed as a soldier for the 3rd Divisonal Signl Company to help with communication.

Henry Chadwick enlisted in 1916 and was discharged in 1920, he was married in France to Winfred De Hudson on the 30.10. 1918 and the only family member we have the details of was his father, a bank manager in Clifton Hill called William John Chadwick.

He returned from the war will no injuries. However there is record that he suffered a mild case of Pleurisy which is the imflammation of the lungs. This can cause severe breathing issues and often, depending on the serverity, and especially during the war can result in death.

Before his discharge there are records and allegations of illegal absence. Mr Chadwick who had been transfered to the Australian Corp Sig Coy to become a sapper wrote of the truth of this statement along with why, and so his was made to work back the days he was absent and that was the end of that matter.

By the end of his service, Henry Chadwick was nearly 26 years old.

The path and his where abouts during the war are unclear, but he was in England and France.

Later documents and research also show that he served in the Second World War, had 2 children and moved from living in England to living in Victoria again.
