Samuel Thomas MacMillan was born in Macousquin, Coleraine, Londonderry, Ireland in 1878. On the 15.4.1908 he married Marian Henderson MacMillan of Glen Forrest and they had 3 children.

Samuel enlisted at Blackboy Hill on the 28.3.16, aged 37 years 9 months. He was described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a chest measurement of 40 inches, ruddy complexion, grey eyes and light hair. He declared his occupation to be a journalist and his denomination Presbyterian. He was appointed Corporal with the service number 2400.  Initially, he served with the 44th Infantry Battalion, then was appointed to HQMS London – Australian Graves Registry. Samuel embarked on the 13.10.16 at Fremantle on A39, Port Macquarie and returned to Australia on the 14.7.20 on the Wiltshire.

On the 11.9.20 he disembarked in the 2nd Military District, and his appointment was terminated. His war medals were forfeited for having misappropriated his War Gratuity.
