Charles Henry Smith
Charles was actually named Thomas on his birth certificate with birth date recorded as 7th May 1898 not the 9th May as he always celebrated. He had said that Tom or Tommy as he was known, was a nickname. His name on all official records was always Charles Henry Smith.
He first enlisted Feb 1916, Moree, NSW but was later discharged due to flat feet. He enlisted again in June, 1917, Moree.
Charles arrived in France April 1918, 8 days before his brother, Alfred died at Amiens.
