10 Jan 1968: Involvement Australian Army (Post WW2), Private, 4718895, 1st Australian Civil Affairs Unit , A Medic Cap Team from 1 Australian Civil Affairs Unit was ambushed by enemy Viet Cong at Hoi My market place Phuoc Toy Provence at approximately 0945hrs on 10th January 1968.1 Australian Medic was wounded, 3 ARVN regular soldiers were killed and a child was killed in front of me.The incident is recorded on "Battle Maps"at reference YS502558

I enlisted in the Citizen Military Forces Australian Army 11th February 1963 to 10June 1964 and I played Euphonium in the 1 RSAR Military Band based at Torrens Parade Ground Adelaide South Australia. The band played at regular Military parades and functions in South Australia. During my time in the band I attend military exercises at Cultana in the 1RSAR Band and I was trained as a medic and first aid stretcher bearer in field exercises.

As a National Servicemen  I was enlisted in the Australian Regular Army (NS) from 2 Feburuary 1967 to 1 February 1969.

Operational Service Vietnam 5th December 1967 to 15th October 1968.

Principal Units served in Vietnam were 

  • 1st Australian Civil Affairs Unit (Private Australian Army)
  • 8 Field Ambulance(Corporal Australian Army)
  • 1 Field Hygiene Company (Corporal Australian Army)

05 Dec 1967: Served in 1 Australian Civil Affairs Unit Medic/Hygiene Inspector and then in 8 Field Ambulance Nui Dat Medic/ Hygiene Inspector, Detachment 1 Field Hygiene Company
