Dedicated to my Grandfather Albert Thomas Johnson for your service in the Korean War.
My Grandfather was born on 27 Jan 1930 at Broken Hill, N.S.W. He was the only child of Mr & Mrs Arthur Osborne Johnson of 335 Piper street Broken Hill, N.S.W. He attended Alma Infants School Broken Hill in 1936, Alma Primary School in 1939 and then Broken Hill High School between 1942 and 1946. Albert passed his intermediate examinations, gaining his passing certificate.
He applied for, and enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy. He left Broken Hill for his final medical examination on Wednesday night 13 Aug 1947 en route to the Adelaide Naval Base. Albert passed all of his examinations, then continued onto Flinders Naval College to study Wireless Telegraphy & Radio work. He later trained as a Stoker, and was assigned to HMAS Condomine, completing his Tours of Duty in the early 1950's.
Albert continued with his naval career, serving on HMAS Murchison and HMAS Sydney. They were known as modified River Class Frigates, although they are sometimes referred to as Bay Class Frigates.
