Lloyd was the son of Harold Hartill-Law, of Rose Bay, New South Wales, Australia.

The Tulagi was hit by two torpedoes fired by the German submarine U-532. and sank in less than a minute, on her starboard side, stern first.

Cause of Death: Presumed drowned at sea due to enemy action. His remains were unable to be recovered.
