Edgar Peter Buddle was born in Long Gully in 1893, the son of Peter Buddle, a mining manager, and Mary Elizabeth Buddle.   He was the brother of Thomas Percy Buddle.   The family were Methodists and lived at 430 Bennett Street, Long Gully.   He was employed as a Carter at the Beehive Stores.

Edgar Peter Buddle enlisted for service in the Australian Imperial Force on 7th July 1915, aged 21 years & 8 months.

"At the Beehive on Saturday presentations were made to three former employes, Privates Jenkins, Buddle and Marriott, who are shortly leaving for the front.   Mr. J. C. Henderson presided.   On behalf of the firm and employes each soldier was presented by Mr. A. Mackay, in the unavoidable absence of Major R. O. Henderson, with a revolver, wristlet watch and belt.   In making the presentation, Mr Mackay eulogised the men for their patriotism, and wished them a safe return . . . . The recipients fittingly responded."   [Bendigonian  21 October 1915]

On 9.12.15 Edgar Peter Buddle was appointed to the 6th Reinforcements for the 14th Infantry Battalion and allotted Service No. 4450.   He embarked for overseas on 28.1.16 on board "Themistocles".

"Mrs Buddle, of Bennett-street, Long Gully, has received a cablegram from her son Private Edgar Buddle, in which he states that he and Private Reg. Jenkins, formerly employes at the Beehive, had arrived at Eastern Suez.   Both are well.   They left Melbourne on 29th January on the transport carrying many other Bendigonians and Northern Victorians." [Bendigonian  2 March 1916]

He disembarked at Alexandria (28.2.16) and was then based at the 1st Australian Divisional Base, Cairo.   He embarked for France on 29.3.16 and disembarked at Marseilles (4.4.16).   On 4.6.16 he marched out to the 1st Pioneer Battalion and was Taken on Strength (6.6.16).   In September he was admitted to hospital suffering from "ear trouble", a temporary loss of hearing due to shell shock (19.9.16).   On 5.11.16 he was transferred to 1st Anzac Corps School for permanent base duties in the Corps area.

He was appointed Lance Corporal (6.9.17); promoted Temporary Corporal (4.12.17); and appointed Temp/RQMS (5.11.18)

He returned to Australia on 23.7.19.
