Son of Charles Robert and Margaret Lillias Steele, of Nailsworth, South Australia.

Mr. C. R. Steele. formerly of Paruna, has been notified that his son AB Robert Mitchell Steele who was a member of the crew of HMAS Australia, lost his life as a result of wounds  and burns received in battle in the Central Philippines

AB Robert Mitchell Steele was born in June 1924.  He was the eldest son of Mr. C.R. and the late Mrs. Steele of Paruna.  After being educated at Paruna Primary School and a city High School, he worked on his father's farm about seven miles from Paruna.  AB Steele enlisted in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve in 1941 and HMAS Australia was his first ship.
