Tom as he was well known held a large tracks of land in Kangarilla and ran cattle and a dairy farm.  Much of the property his father owned was wooded and this was supplied to Hallett Brick for the kilns.  He married Dorothy and they had a child Janette, Dorothy died 28/10/1954, later he married again.
