Son of Sgt. J K and Mrs W M PENNEY of 150 Military Road, Semaphore, SA. Educated at Unley High School and passed his Intermediate Examination on his 14th birthday, William was fond of swimming and held St John Ambulance and Life Saving Certificates. He was a member of the Police Training College Thebarton before joining the RAN in May 1941.
