S.A. Man Prisoner
In Malaya
Ordinary-Seaman John Edward McLeod, of Gladstone road, Prospect, is a prisoner of war in Japanese hands and is interned in Malaya.This advicehas been received by his parents through the International Red Cross at Geneva and the Navy Department. He was previously reported missing, believed a prisoner of war.  He enlisted in the Royal Australian  Navy in May, 1941, and was drafted in January, 1942. for service in the Dutch East Indies. He reached Singapore on January 21, where he manned an anti-aircraft battery.

He was formerly employed by Adelaide Art Engravers. Educated at Prospect and Nailsworth Higher Primary Schools, he played football for North Adelaide Colts. A younger brother,  Norman, is serving in the R.A.N.
