Sick Berth Attendant (SBA) Lionel Alfred Kewell (Service No:PA1917) enlisted in the RAN on 11 November 1940 and was attached to HMAS Cerberus. SBA Kewell was attached to HMAS Kuttabul when he was Discharged on 8 July 1946.

The third of four children (and only son) of Alfred Thomas Kewell (b1887 in Kent, England) and Elizabeth Eva Mills (b1892 at Carey Gully, South Australia). Alfred was working as a Gardener in Kent at fourteen years of age, and in 1906 enlisted in the Corps Dragoon Line (Regimental No:7089). Alfred (a Labourer) and Elizabeth married in 1913 in Glanville, South Australia. Alfred worked as a Labourer and Wharf Labourer.

Lionel attended Ethelston Primary School and in 1930 was awarded the AR Le Mesurier Scholarship. He worked as a Constable in Hindmarsh, South Australia and in 1941 married Nancy Shirley Norsworthy (b1922 in Gawler, South Australia). Lionel died in 1984 and Nancy (who remarried in 19189) died in 2005.
