From Gwen Lee, William Hogmans youngest daughter, my mum
S.P.O. WILLIAM FREDERICK HOGMAN 19356 Survived the sinking of H.M.A.S. PERTH 1 on the night of 28th February 1942 . His death by drowning on 12th September 1944. Dad was on the Burma Railway moving camp as the railway was completed. When they were being transported on the Rakuyo Maru it was torpedoed as it had no notice that it was carrying Prisons of War. He survived that and was on a raft, I was told this by a sailor who was also on the raft, unfortunately dad rolled off the raft during the night. Dad was a strong swimmer but as you could imagine all the P.O.W s we’re weak and underfed so only the young ones survived. Dad was 39 years old. Married to Edith and father to Joan,Wilma and Gwen Rest In Peace🙏🇦🇺⚓️
